A fifth minute goal from Connor Alba wasn’t enough for Marquette on Sunday night, as Green Bay got an equalizer just past the hour mark and the two teams settled for a 1-1 exhibition draw on Sunday night.

Alba’s goal came off assists from fellow sophomores Luka Prpa and Patrick Seagrist, as Prpa made a run up the sideline and fired a cross into the middle, where Seagrist pushed it to Alba for the shot. Marquette finished the first half with a 4-1 advantage in shots, with junior transfer defender Steffen Böhm recording a team save on GB’s lone shot shortly after Alba’s goal as keeper Luis Barraza was caught out of position.

The second half went a little differently, as Green Bay outshot Marquette 5-4, although the Golden Eagles did force the Phoenix keepers, first Nikola Kahvedzic and then Jamison Yoder in his stead, to make one save each. Tomer Zloczower leveled the match in the 66th minute when he was able to put his head on a Buran Huseini cross and poked it inside the post and past Barraza.

Here’s comments from Connor Alba after the game:

And head coach Louis Bennett as well:

Marquette has one more exhibition match on the slate, a road trip against Loyola-Chicago, which will be this coming Saturday. The Golden Eagles open the regular season with a visit to Kentucky on August 25th.
