On Thursday, Class of 2018 top 25 prospect Quentin Grimes included Marquette as he cut his list of schools down to seven. The Golden Eagles will be competing for Grimes’ services along with Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Texas, and Texas A&M.

247 Sports’ Composite system ranks Grimes as the #21 player in the Class of 2018, the #5 point guard in the country, and the #1 player in his home state of Texas. With only Joey Hauser in the fold for 2018, Marquette has the #26 recruiting class in the country and the 4th best in the Big East. Adding Grimes would send the Golden Eagles rocketing up to #6 in the country and tops in the conference.
As always, we have to point out that Marquette currently does not project to have a scholarship available for Grimes in the fall of 2018.

However, head coach Steve Wojciechowski and his staff have been in hot pursuit of Grimes for a while now, including all four full time coaches attending his adidas Uprising tournament games in Las Vegas this past weekend. This is all after Joey Hauser had made his commitment to Marquette, so it seems very clear that Wojo and his staff are already anticipating someone other than Andrew Rowsey departing this roster following the 2017-18 season. There are some relatively obvious and innocuous possibilities for this if you stop and think about it. If the coaches know about something already but they’re not making it public, I’m not particularly worried about it.
The next step in the process will be Grimes taking official visits, or more accurately, announcing what schools he’ll be visiting. He can’t take seven visits by NCAA rule, so if he doesn’t announce a visit to Milwaukee, we can probably wrap up the discussion at that point.
