Your College Football Saturday Viewing Guide: September 16, 2017

There’s a chance that today could be completely bananas due to a confluence of events.

NCAA Football: Citrus Bowl-Louisiana State vs Louisville Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Through a weird quirk of coincidence, there are nine ranked teams playing a nationally televised game on the road today. Seven of them are playing against an unranked team. Now, maybe that’s not that weird of an event. There’s lots of unranked teams in every conference, so maybe this happens on a regular basis.

However, six of these games are non-conference matchups. In other words: there’s six ranked teams playing on the road against teams that they are not regularly familiar with playing. It would seem to me that the combination of unfamiliarity plus road game could end up equaling a completely absurd level of upsets today. At the very least, the chances are high that we’ll get a lot of compelling football games out of it.

The highlight game of the day has to be the 7pm start on ABC, as it features #3 Clemson, the defending national champions, visiting #14 Louisville and Lamar Jackson, the defending Heisman Trophy winner. There’s also a matchup of two ranked SEC teams down in Gainesville, although because it’s #23 Tennessee and #24 Florida, only one of them will still be ranked on Monday.

The SEC Network and the Big Ten Network are up to their usual shenanigans with regional coverage in a couple of broadcast windows today, so if you’re getting Mercer-Auburn and you really wanted to see Purdue-Missouri, take to the internets for all your streaming needs.
