It’s time for another wild and woolly Saturday of college football!
From a look at this slate of nationally televised games, I think I understand why ESPN’s College Gameday elected to broadcast from Times Square in New York City today. The best game of the day is either #16 TCU at #6 Oklahoma State or #17 Mississippi State at #11 Georgia, and neither of those games were guarantees to be strong matchups when The World Wide Leader made the call on Times Square last week.
I still say that the right move for Gameday should have been Nashville for #1 Alabama at Vanderbilt, but that would have been a risk for ESPN. Vandy had to beat Kansas State last week to set up today’s encounter between two 3-0 SEC squads. Also there’s the very likely chance that Alabama pounds the ‘Dores into paste considering that the line appears to be hovering just under 20.
The late afternoon and evening windows do provide a certain amount of excitement, as there’s seven ranked teams on the road against unranked squads after 3pm today, and that doesn’t include the Miss St./Georgia game between two ranked teams. At least in terms of the odds, the best chance for an upset comes when #20 Florida wanders into Lexington to take on Kentucky. It’s a very weird world when we have to take Kentucky football seriously.
There is one regional coverage crossover on Big Ten Network, but if you find yourself trying to watch Rutgers or Indiana play football, you’re probably not living your best lives in the first place.
Here’s the schedule! Enjoy!
