Alright, Marquette dropped their first set in Big East play in their last contest against Xavier, no big deal. No big deal is right because the Golden Eagles rebounded to win the next three, get the win, and stand 4-0 in Big East play. The first set was shaky as both teams were trading points, but Xavier later went on a 5-0 run and kinda ran away with it. The second and third set wasn’t the best display of offense for the Golden Eagles, hitting just .273 in the second set. The fourth set was all Marquette as they started out on 8-1 run and countered Xavier’s next point with three of their own. Xavier hit a nice, crisp .000 in the fourth set. Hope Werch recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs and Lauren Speckman somehow found a way to improve her already amazing stats with another 51 assist night. The Golden Eagles now return home to host a decent DePaul team.

DePaul did not start the season how they would have liked. They lost all three games at their own tournament and only won one set throughout the tournament. The Blue Demons stand at 7-9 now and 1-3 in the Big East. The lone Big East win was a five set thriller vs St. John’s who Marquette swept (not to brag (ok, kind of bragging)). The Blue Demons will now and try to end Marquette’s five match winning streak when they arrive at the Al. It won’t be easy for DePaul. While the all time series is knotted at 29 matches each, Marquette has won 12 straight against DePaul, racking up every win since the 2009 season started. On top of that, the Blue Demons have only won two sets from the Golden Eagles in the last seven matches.
Leading the offense for DePaul is Brittany Maxwell with 208 kills (3.35 k/s) and Claire Anderson with 190 kills (3.06 k/s). Maxwell is a 6-3 right side hitter from Macomb, Michigan. She had 16 kills and 12 digs in DePaul’s latest match against Butler while Anderson had 8 kills and 10 digs. Anderson is a six foot outside hitter and had 11 kills against Seton Hall. In the lone Big East win over St. John’s, Anderson had 21 kills while Maxwell had 18.
Setting for the Blue Demons is Kelsey Horvath. The 5-8 senior has 406 assists on the season which comes out to 8.12 assists per set. She had 47 assists in the win over St, John’s. Katie Dolan of DePaul has also had her fair share of assists as she has recorded 198 assists which comes out to 6.83 assists per set. Both setters will be used throughout the match on Saturday.
My prediction for this one is gonna be crazy. Oh wait no it’s not because Marquette is winning this one 3-0. Although I was wrong on the 3-0 prediction last match, a win is a win and that’s all that matters. The Golden Eagles will win this match 3-0 and will give all focus to probably their biggest match of the season in Creighton.
