Late in the day on Friday, news filtered out that Class of 2018 point guard prospect Quentin Grimes would be hosting four schools for in-home visits over the weekend. The four schools headed to Houston are Kansas, Kentucky, Texas, and YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles.
According to Scout’s Evan Daniels, who spoke with Grimes’ club team coach, the four visits will take place on Saturday and Sunday, and Grimes will start setting up official campus visits after that. John Steppe of the Marquette Wire confirmed that Marquette’s visit with Grimes will be on Saturday, and MU associate head coach Stan Johnson seemed to help with the confirmation via Twitter.

I love how informative Coach Johnson’s Twitter is, even though he can’t actually say out loud who he’s out recruiting.
Quentin Grimes is ranked #17 in the country by the 247 Sports Composite system. That has him as the #4 point guard and the best prospect in the state of Texas. He cut down his recruiting list to seven schools in early August, and it appears that he may have focused his list even further since then with this list of four visits. For the record, all four of the teams visiting Grimes over the weekend were included as part of the seven.
To a certain degree, merely getting to the stage of being included with Bill Self, Shaka Smart, and John Calipari is a pretty good accomplishment for Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski. With that said, it’s still going to be a bit of an uphill battle for Wojo and company to present the most interesting recruiting pitch to Grimes amongst what might be his final four teams.
As things currently stand, Marquette does not project to have a scholarship available for Grimes in the fall of 2018. However, given MU’s continued pursuit of him, including getting all four coaches at his adidas Uprising games after Joey Hauser had already committed, there seems to be a certain amount of evidence to suggest that Wojo is expecting someone to leave the team after the 2017-18 season other than Andrew Rowsey, the lone senior.
Here’s what the scholarship picture looks like going forward.
