The Marquette volleyball team stayed put at #19 in the AVCA polls after sweeping both Xavier and DePaul last week. No surprise. The Golden Eagles have swept all of their opponents after losing to Creighton and are now on a four match winning streak. The team will now take on Butler at home and will look to avenge one of their three league losses from last year.

The Butler Bulldogs are off to a rough start. Check that, a weird start. They started off the season losing to a couple ranked opponents, that’s fine, but then they start losing to teams who are not very good at all. The weirdest thing though, is that they took CREIGHTON to FIVE sets. They played Creighton crazy well and did everything they could to steal some points, which is awesome. After pushing Creighton to five, they then dropped matches too DePaul and Georgetown. Depending on which Butler team shows up, this could be a really easy match or we could be going to five as we did last year when the Bulldogs came to Milwaukee.
Leading the offense for Butler is Brooke Gregory, who is averaging 2.78 kills per set. On the other side of Gregory is Bri Lilly who is averaging 2.61 kills per set. Lilly is also averaging 1.46 blocks per set. Butler has three total hitters who are averaging around the same amount of kills per set, so they have options to choose from for who they go to bring the ball down.
Setting for the Bulldogs is Megan Ramseyer and Maddie Freiwald. Ramseyer is averaging 8.41 assists per set while Freiwald is averaging 8.12 assists per set. Butler is extremely lucky to have two women averaging over eight assists per set. Both are solid setters who love to go to Gregory or Lilly.
Like I said before, depending on what Butler team we get tomorrow this could be an interesting match. It’s either gonna be a clean sweep or match that could go the distance. For my prediction, I am gonna say Marquette wins in four.
