For the third time this season, Marquette volleyball has set a new program best for their ranking in the AVCA top 25 poll.

The new poll came out on Monday, and it has the Golden Eagles (17-4, 8-1 Big East) ranked at #18 in the country. That’s up one spot from #19, where Marquette has resided for the past two weeks. MU earned 526 points in this iteration of the poll, up from 501 last week. #17 Purdue earned 549 points, while #19 Washington earned 495 points.

The same familiar names from Marquette’s schedule are generally speaking right where you’d expect them to be in the new poll. BYU is still #1 in the country, earning 60 first place votes. Wisconsin fell one spot from #8 to #9 this week, which is one spot ahead of Creighton, who is still in the #10 spot. USC shifted up one spot to #14 this week, while Baylor stayed steady at #24.

Depending on how you think about it, Marquette just barely missed out on playing a ranked foe this weekend. Northern Iowa, who will host MU on Sunday, is still the unofficial #26 team in the country, as they have run their Missouri Valley record to a perfect 8-0. They’re just outside the top 25, but they accrued just 55 points, well short of Arizona‘s 105, so it’s not like one ballot would have altered things and given the Panthers the ranking.

Marquette returns to action on Friday, when they’ll start their second rotation through the Big East by hosting DePaul. First serve is scheduled for 7pm.
