THE LIVE STATS: Sidearm Stats
WHERE IS CARROLL, ANYWAY? Waukesha, Wisconsin, literally less than 20 miles away from the arena, so shoutout to MU for saving a buck on travel expenses for this.
THE LINE: I dunno, it’s an exhibition against a Division 3 team. Let’s say Marquette -24.5.
THE PROJECTION: No official numbers exist, but I imagine KenPom would give MU a 99% chance of victory.
IS CARROLL ANY GOOD? They went 12-13 last year after finishing on a three game winning streak to get their conference record to 8-8. However, they lost their top two scorers from last season, which is two of the three guys who averaged at least 10 points per game. Watch out for Nick Penny, who shot 50.7% on threes last year.
THE HISTORY: Would you believe that these two teams have played 15 times before in games that Marquette counts as regular season games? MU has a record of 13-2 all time against the Pioneers, with all 15 games coming between February 16, 1917, and November 24, 1951. Carroll won game #1 and game #7, which took place in 1925.
The Marquette record for points scored in a game is 78, set in the final meeting. The Carroll record for points scored is 67, also in the final meeting. There’s a decent chance both of those records fall tonight. Carroll’s record for fewest points scored — 11, shoutout to basketball in 1918 — is probably safe, as is Marquette’s record low of 16.
