The newest poll came out on Monday afternoon, and MU is up to #17 in the country this time around. That surpasses the previous best ever ranking of #18, which was first reached on October 15th and then re-acquired in last week’s poll. Marquette picked up 571 points in this week’s poll, which has them somewhat evenly between #16 Oregon at 649 and #18 Washington State at 483.
Our weekly watch on where Marquette’s opponents are ranked starts where it has for most of the season: BYU. The Cougars are still the #1 team in the country, but they’re now down to 48 first place votes and just 29 points separates them and #2 Stanford. Wisconsin finds themselves kind of up one spot this week, as they’re tied for 7th place with Penn State after being ranked 8th last week. Creighton stayed at #9 just like they stayed undefeated in Big East play, while USC continues to bounce around in the middle of the poll, dropping from #13 to #14 this week.
The Receiving Votes category is led off with two Marquette opponents. Baylor recorded 65 points in the poll this week, leaving them a little less than 30 points shy of the top 25. Northern Iowa is a wee bit behind them, gathering up 49 points.
Marquette returns to action this coming Friday night when they host Seton Hall to start the final weekend of the regular season. First serve is scheduled for 7pm Central at the McGuire Center.
