Apparently wins over Villanova and Georgetown are impressive to poll voters.
Marquette volleyball is back to being ranked #18 in the country after the newest AVCA coaches poll came out on Monday afternoon. That’s a bump up from #19 last week, as MU had dipped one spot after losing to Creighton. #18 is still the best ranking in program history, so that’s still pretty neat.
The Golden Eagles picked up 530 points in the poll this week, and there was a pretty big gap around them. #17 Oregon had 620 points, while #19 Washington State had 459 points. Both the Ducks and the Cougars dropped one spot from last week’s poll.
BYU is still leading the way amongst Marquette’s opponents this week, as they’re still undefeated and still the #1 team in the country. Wisconsin dropped three spots to #8 this week, while Creighton stayed even at #9. USC is back up two spots to #13 to round out the ranked opponents on the schedule.
Baylor is the unofficial #26 team in the country, but their 53 points is far away from the 130 earned by #25 Washington. Northern Iowa picked up 28 points to be unofficially #28 after being ranked #25 in the country last week.
Marquette returns to action on Friday evening when they face Butler in Indianapolis. The Golden Eagles are looking to lock up the #2 seed in the Big East tournament with two wins over the weekend.
