Your College Basketball Saturday Viewing Guide: December 8, 2018

It’s apparently Rivalry Day to a certain extent.

NCAA Basketball: West Virginia at Kansas Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

By my count, there are seven games on national television that could qualify as a local rivalry game with an added bonus of a game that’s a high profile national rivalry. That’s never a bad way to spend a Saturday watching college basketball, even if one of those games is DePaul/Northwestern.

In fact, SIX of those eight rivalry games involve the Big East! There’s that DePaul/Northwestern game of course, there’s Villanova/Saint Joseph’s, Xavier/Cincinnati, Georgetown/Syracuse, Marquette/Wisconsin, and Creighton/Nebraska. That’s a filled up day worth of hoops, and that doesn’t even include Pittsburgh/West Virginia or BYU/Utah.

On top of rivalry action, we get a Kentucky/Seton Hall neutral-ish site game at MSG, a neutral site doubleheader at The Rock in New Jersey with a ranked team facing an unranked team in each game, and Maryland inexplicably going to Baltimore to play Loyola-Chicago. There’s even a lot of downcard action that’s pretty interesting. Wichita State/Oklahoma? Good! Louisville/Indiana? Fascinating, and even more so for Marquette fans! Western Kentucky and Charles Bassey going to Arkansas? Could be fun! Notre Dame/UCLA? Expect a lot of discussion of Digger Phelps!

There’s also Elite Eight volleyball action on ESPNU from 3pm CT onwards, so if you find yourself caught between games or in halftimes or whatever, flip over there, because I’ll guarantee it’ll be action-packed.

Here’s the lineup for national television today! Enjoy!
