Ranked in the preseason, undefeated in 2018....... not ranked any more. Sure.

On Saturday, Marquette men’s lacrosse secured an 11-10 win over Jacksonville in their first game of the 2018 season. The Golden Eagles were ranked #20 last week in the Cascade media top 20 poll after turning up at #17 in the preseason iteration of the poll.

Marquette is not ranked in the newest top 20.

Yeah, that makes a bunch of sense, poll voters.

Marquette is currently sitting at the unofficial #21 spot down there in the receiving votes department, so they’re still in the minds of some of the voters. It’s a pretty Big East-centric RV area, with Georgetown coming in one spot behind Marquette, and Providence Friars running around down at the unofficial #27 ranking.

If that didn’t tip you off that MU’s schedule this season is ever so slightly daunting, well, let me introduce you to the teams that are actually ranked on the Golden Eagles’ schedule this season: #1 Duke, #4 Denver, #5 Ohio State, #7 Villanova, and #8 Notre Dame. FUN FACT: Four of those games come in Marquette’s last six contests on the schedule, including road trips against the Blue Devils and Pioneers on consecutive Saturdays to close out the regular season.

Marquette returns to action on Saturday in Michigan, when they’ll be visiting Detroit. The Titans are 1-1 on the season after pulling off an overtime victory over Mercer on Sunday and will play Jacksonville in Florida on Tuesday before heading north to prepare for the Golden Eagles.
