Connor Alba Grabs Three Points For Marquette

The Golden Eagles took just a little bit before scoring on Saturday against Villanova, but still got the win.

Marquette men’s soccer made a big move in terms of their postseason future on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Villanova. The win and corresponding three points vaults the Golden Eagles into a big five-way tie for fourth place in the Big East with four matches left to be played.

It almost didn’t go that way for the Golden Eagles. While Marquette held a shot advantage in both halves, it was only a slight one, as MU finished with a 14-11 margin at the end of the match. Both keepers made one save each in the first half to keep the match scoreless at the 45 minute mark. While shots overall were close in the second half, Marquette was clearly making more of their chances after the break. VU’s Carson Williams made four saves in the second half, all in the first 30 minutes of the period, to keep the match knotted in a scoreless draw.

And then, very late, in the 86th minute, Connor Alba:

That’s an impressive amount of individual effort on Alba’s part to knock it in, and even with that being the case, Luka Prpa still picked up his third assist of the season.

That didn’t leave much in the way of time for the Wildcats to mount a comeback, and all they managed to put on the stat sheet was a foul and a yellow card before time expired.
