Marquette volleyball has not been ranked in the top 10 in the country since October 13, 2019. It has been a long and strange saga over that time, but our long national nightmare has come to an end. On Monday afternoon, the AVCA put out their newest top 25 rankings, and Marquette is back in the top 10 once again.
The Golden Eagles are ranked exactly #10 this week, earning 966 points in the polling. Creighton sits one spot in front of Marquette at #9 with 1,050 points, while BYU is one spot behind at #11 with 938 points.
Baylor is no longer the #1 team in the country, but they are still the top ranked team on Marquette’s schedule this season. After losing to then-#4 Texas over the past week, Baylor is now #3 and still earning one first place vote. With the Bears giving up their tightening grip on the first place votes, Wisconsin also picked up a first place nod this week, but they ended up one spot and just 24 points behind Baylor at #4. That’s a two spot climb for the Badgers, and Creighton and BYU both moved up one spot from last week. That leaves Illinois as the only other MU opponent in the poll this week. The Illini are at #19, down two spots from a week ago.
Nobody on the MU schedule is in the receiving votes department yet again this week. I keep looking, they keep not being there.
Marquette returns to action on Friday when they host Xavier at the McGuire Center. First serve is set for 7pm Central, with the ever diligent MU athletics staff taking care of streaming duties if you can’t make it in person.
