After a 1-1 week that featured maybe one good half of basketball, it’s not surprising that the Associated Press basketball poll voters are not particularly impressed with Marquette men’s basketball.
MU spent the first two AP top 25 polls hovering four spots outside the officially ranked cutoff. Now they’re seven spots outside after earning just 11 points in the polling this week. The Golden Eagles appeared on just three ballots in this incarnation, earning one vote each at #20, #22, and #25.
At #6 in the country this week, Maryland leads the way in terms of opponents that pop up on the Marquette schedule. It’s still not a guarantee that MU will see the Terps this season, as it would only possibly come in the third and final game of the Orlando Invitational during Thanksgiving weekend. Seton Hall dipped one spot to #13 this week after losing to Michigan State, while Villanova fell seven spots to #17 after getting hammered by Ohio State. Xavier went 2-0 last week, and as such they moved up three spots to #18.
Down in the receiving votes department, Purdue is exactly tied with Marquette at 11 points after the Boilermakers lost to MU at Fiserv Forum. Butler advanced to 4-0 on the season and are earning 10 points this week. Providence and Wisconsin both earned five points this week, although that’s a drop for the Friars and a sudden jump into the polling by the Badgers.
Marquette is off until Saturday when they will host Robert Morris. The Colonials are 1-4 so far this season, and the broadcast for this 1pm Central tipoff will be coming to you on FS2.
