Another new AVCA top 25 poll, another week in the top 10 for Marquette volleyball. On Monday afternoon, we found out that the Golden Eagles are ranked #9 this week, same as they were last week.
Marquette earned 1,055 points in the polling this time around. That puts them between #8 Penn State with 1,183 points and #10 Washington with 949. That’s kind of a nice gentle glide down in the rankings, so MU was pretty well settled in at #9.
Baylor is still the best team that Marquette saw this season. The Bears picked up one first place vote this week and are ranked #3 in the country. Wisconsin moved up two spots to #5 this week, and so I feel it is important to remind everyone that Marquette beat Wisconsin at Wisconsin this season. Creighton is up to #12 in the country this week after being at #14 last week, while BYU are down three spots to #13. With just 62 points in the polling this week, Illinois have held on to their #25 ranking, but I continue to marvel at the fact that they’re still ranked at 13-12 on the year.
Marquette returns to action on Friday when they visit those #12 ranked Creighton Bluejays down in Omaha. For all intents and purposes, that match will be for the Big East regular season championship, although both squads will still have one more match remaining on Sunday afternoon.
