Marquette Men’s Basketball Still Ranked #10 In New Associated Press Poll

That’s a weird amount of respect for St. John’s.

NCAA Basketball: Villanova at Marquette Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Over the last week, Marquette men’s basketball lost at home to St. John’s but also won at home against then-#14 Villanova. Admittedly, I’m glad I’m not an Associated Press voter, so I didn’t have to figure out what to do with the Golden Eagles as a result. As it turns out, the collective thoughts of the voters is to leave Marquette at #10 for another week.

The Golden Eagles earned 953 points in the polling to land at #10 this week. Houston jumped up three spots to land at #9 with 1,033 points, while Michigan State dropped down two spots to be #11 with 948 points. That’s not that far off from MU, so you can tell the voting was a little bit close.

There are six Marquette opponents in the top 25 this week, although none ranked higher than MU. Villanova is the closest this week, moving up to #13 after looking bad against Creighton and losing in Milwaukee. Sure. Kansas continued to slump, dropping one spot to #14. Louisville are the only steady team at #16 again this week, while Kansas State comes roaring into the poll at #18. Wisconsin dip one spot to #20, and Buffalo is in danger of dropping out after falling two spots to #25 this week. Yes, Marquette is 5-1 against those teams, and that’s pretty good. There are no teams only receiving votes this week on MU’s schedule.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday night when they visit DePaul. Tip-off is set for 7pm Central with the broadcast coming at you on a local Fox Sports affiliate.
