Big East What To Watch: Week 14

Arguably the biggest week in the conference this season. It’s just a coincidence that it’s because of Marquette’s games.

Tuesday, February 5th: St. John’s Red Storm at #10 Marquette Golden Eagles (7pm Central, FS1) - This is an easy one: It’s a revenge game for Marquette’s only loss in league play and their only loss since falling to Kansas waaaaaaaay back in November. Also, Marquette needs to win this game in order to set up a battle for first place on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Wednesday, February 6th: Georgetown Hoyas at Providence Friars (6:30pm Central, FS1) - For the love of Dan Gavitt, would someone not named Villanova or Marquette PLEASE get back above .500 in league play already? The Hoyas had gotten back to .500 last week, but their loss to Villanova on Sunday knocked them back underneath. This is their first chance to get back to .500, and quite honestly, the best path for the Big East for someone to get above .500 this week.

Wednesday, February 6th: Creighton Bluejays at #14 Villanova Wildcats (7pm, CBS Sports Network) - The Big East needs Marquette to get through St. John’s safely in order to really bring the importance for Saturday. However, the same can not be said for Villanova here. In fact, it’s arguably more fun if Villanova takes the L here, and thus (theoretically) sends them to Milwaukee with one loss, just like Marquette. It’s more fun to have a tie be broken regardless of who wins as opposed to watching one team attempt to create a tie, right? Either way, still important.

Saturday, February 9th: Butler Bulldogs at Georgetown Hoyas (11am Central, Fox Sports Regional affiliates) - This is the back end of Georgetown’s quest to move above .500 in league play. There are three teams in the Big East that are tied for third at 4-5: St. John’s, Creighton, and Georgetown. The league needs St. John’s to take the L on Tuesday, and the Jays aren’t exactly favored to win in Philly. Thus, we’re all cheering for the Hoyas to figure this out. Someone needs to get over .500, because this is starting to get absurd.

Saturday, February 9th: #14 Villanova Wildcats at #10 Marquette Golden Eagles (1:30pm, Fox) - If I am not mistaken, this will be the first game between two ranked opponents in Big East play this season. I don’t think I need to explain this any further.

Here’s the full Big East men’s basketball schedule for the week! Enjoy!
