2019 Championship “Week” Update: March 12th

Congrats to Iona and Wofford on their tournament titles in the MAAC and Southern Conference respectively! They’re both in the NCAA tournament as automatic bids now. It’s the fourth straight tournament title for Tim Cluess and Iona, which is pretty impressive. I would have preferred to see UNC-Greensboro come out ahead of Wofford in the SoCon for #TwoBidSoCon purposes, but the Terriers bounced back from a 55-50 deficit with just over five minutes left to win by 12. That’s pretty darned impressive.

We get five, count ‘em, FIVE more bids being handed out today. Isn’t that great? Here’s the chronological order on them so you know what’s what.

Three of them feature the top two teams in the respective leagues facing off, so that should lead to some pretty competitive games. Well, at least in two of them. Gonzaga has been mowing everyone in the WCC this season, so that one’s not looking super good right now.

Elsewhere, we get the continuation of the America East and MEAC tournament, while the ACC, Sun Belt, and SWAC join the party today. In fact, the ACC gives us a DAYTIME BASKETBALL~! double header, although it is amongst four of the six worst teams in that league.
