They’re not in the poll, but they’re in people’s minds.

For the first time since Week Two of the regular season, YOUR Marquette men’s lacrosse team is earning votes in the Inside Lacrosse media top 20 poll.

Marquette suffered a 15-12 loss to Detroit Mercy back on February 23 that sent the IL pollsters away from the Golden Eagles. This past Saturday, they held on for dear life to beat #14 Georgetown by a final score of 9-8, and as such, they’re getting votes in the poll again. Unofficially, MU is the #23 team in the country, turning up in the Receiving Votes department behind the aforementioned Hoyas and Rutgers.

Believe it or not, there’s just six regular season games left in this season already. It’s also going to be a pretty wild six games when it comes to who is left on MU’s schedule. There are two top 10 teams in #5 Duke and #9 Denver. You can add on a game against #12 Notre Dame. Finally, Marquette will get a chance in their very next game to prove that they belong in the top 20, as they’ll be visiting Villanova, who find themselves two spots behind the Golden Eagles in the Receiving Votes area.

In between all of that, Marquette will host St. John’s and visit Providence to wrap up their Big East slate for the year. Y’know, no big deal. Just some extremely high leverage games when it comes to finishing in fourth or better in order to qualify for the Big East tournament.

There is one team earning votes this week that already played Marquette this year. That’s Ohio State, which is ranked #4 in the country this week. The Buckeyes, who are last undefeated team in the country, beat Marquette 13-9 in a very competitive game down in Dallas back on March 2nd.

Saturday’s Big East showdown with Villanova is set for a noon Central time start with a premium paid stream coming to you via Villanova.com. Probably right about to time to ask questions as to why this game isn’t being streamed on the Big East Digital Network.
