The Spring Live Period Brings More Marquette Recruiting News

I guess you have to give credit to the staff for getting after it in a hurry.

Do you like Marquette recruiting updates? If our analytics are right, the answer to that question for the average reader is “yes.”

It’s the spring live period for recruiting, so we’ve got a lot more updates after the big stack of updates that we gave you the other day. Let’s start off with a brand new 2021 scholarship offer before getting into a bunch of 2020 visits.

Chet Holmgren

I didn’t realize we were still making Chets.

Chet Holmgren is, according to 247 Sports, a 6’11”, 190 pound center in the Class of 2021. He hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and attends Mennehaha Academy.... which just happens to be the same school as 2020 top Marquette prospect Jalen Suggs. What are the chances.

247 Sports says that Holmgren is already the #61 player in the Class of 2021, and rates as a four star prospect in their Composite system. He’s the 10th best center in the country in his class and the #2 player in the state of Minnesota.

Here’s a nearly four minute highlight clip.

Okay, back to 2020.

AJ Hoggard

AJ Hoggard is a 6’3”, 185 pound point guard according to 247 Sports. He’s a four-star prospect, and ranked #131 in the class. That seems like a very deep recruiting class. Hoggard is from Wayne, Pennsylvania, but attends Huntington Prep in West Virginia. He appears to have 14 offers already, but not one from Marquette quite yet. His best offer so far is either Seton Hall or Providence.

Ethan Morton

Marquette offered Morton a scholarship back in June 2018. At the time, the 6’4”, 195 pound Pennsylvania native was a top 60 prospect, but 247 Sports has him in the top 50 of their Composite rankings now.

Jamir Watkins

Uh. Unless I’m missing something, Watkins is what we’ll call a ““late bloomer.” I can’t seem to find a 247 Sports page or a Verbal Commits page for him. If anyone knows anything useful about him, pipe up in the comments section.

Jamari Sibley, Elijah Hutchins-Everett, Matt Cross, and Zed Key

That’s a lot of names.

Sibley is the Nicolet teammate of Wisconsin phenom and potential Marquette prospect Jalen Johnson. The 6’8”, 200 pound forward already has an offer from Marquette, and is ranked #80 in the country by 247 Sports.

Everyone else here is a new name to watch, I believe. Hutchins-Everett is ranked #65 in the country by 247 Sports. The 6’10”, 225 pound center is a four star prospect from New Jersey. He already has offers from Villanova and Seton Hall amongst others.

Matt Cross is a 38 year old professional wrestler who has worked for CZW, Ring of Honor, and Lucha Underground amongst other promotions. He is also a 6’6”, 205 pound power forward in the Class of 2020. That Matt Cross is ranked #226 in 247’s Composite system. He has offers from home state UMass and Penn State amongst others.

Zed Key is ranked a bit lower than Cross at #255. He’s a 6’7”, 215 pound center from Long Island. He already as 14 offers it seems, including one from Florida.

Matt Zona

Again, I believe Zona is a new name to the Marquette recruiting search. The New Jersey prospect is listed at 6’9” and 235 pounds, and gets a three star rating from 247 Sports and a ranking of #248. His biggest offer thus far is from in-state Rutgers.
