The recruiting news fairies never sleep, and on Sunday, we got info on a new scholarship offer from Marquette women’s basketball. It appears that new MU head coach Megan Duffy has extended a scholarship offer to Class of 2022 prospect Tatiana Thomas.
I mean, if we can’t trust her high school team’s Twitter account and a picture of Duffy and Thomas together, what can we trust?

As a 2022 prospect, Thomas has just finished up her freshman year of high school. She attends Montini Catholic School, which is in Lombard, Illinois, a west side suburb of Chicago.
Past that, our information about Thomas starts to get a little bit thin. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of news stories out on the interwebs about Montini girls’ basketball and Thomas. However, most of the coverage is coming by way of the Daily Herald, which is subscribers only.
Thankfully, Google result previews give us a tiny look at what we need to know.
- Thomas is 5’11”
- She’s listed as a forward
- She grabbed 398 rebounds in her first season of varsity play, which helped earn her Daily Herald DuPage County All-Area honors. For context purposes, 398 rebounds would be more than anyone on the Marquette roster this past season, and the Golden Eagles played 34 games.
Max Preps shows Montini going 30-5 in 2018-19, which is pretty darn good. They reached the Illinois Class 4A Sectional finals before falling to Benet Academy. Believe it or not, that actually counts as a off-year for Montini this decade. According to the team’s Twitter bio, between 2010 and 2018, they appeared in five state title games. They won four of them, and they tacked on three more third place finishes in that stretch as well. In fact, it’s a down year for this century, as 2019 marked the first year since 2005 that Montini did not reach at least the Super Sectional round of the state tournament.
2022 is a long way off in terms of Marquette’s roster. The incoming freshmen for this fall will be seniors when Thomas will step onto a college campus, so there’s a lot of directions that the Marquette roster can and probably will go between now and then.
In any case, here’s what the scholarship situation looks like right now.
