We got full clarity on the team spectator fall sports at Marquette on Wednesday, as the men’s soccer team released their 2019 schedule.

The Golden Eagles will never play more than two straight matches away from Valley Fields this season, with only two in a row popping up twice. The home dates are a little bit more scattered around, as they only play two in a row once and three in a row once as well.

To be quite honest, I’m scuffling about for things to talk about here. Georgetown, the Big East tournament champion in 2018, is the only 2018 NCAA tournament team on Marquette’s 2019 schedule. As such, things get a little bit thin when it comes to talking points and highlights.

MU will open with a two match homestand over Labor Day weekend against UAB and UC Davis. That’s followed up with a Friday night trip to see USF for the first time since 2009. The Golden Eagles return home the following Friday to host Northern Illinois. The first mid-week game of the year pops up next as MU will head across town to face UWM for the 47th Milwaukee Cup. The Golden Eagles will be looking to regain control of the cup after losing it to the Panthers in 2017.

The UWM match is the last non-conference fixture before Big East play begins, but not the last one of the year. Big East men’s soccer continues what appears to be a tradition at this point of starting out the league slate with weekend matches only, thus allowing teams to play non-conference matches during the week. In this case, MU will go to Wisconsin and host Saint Louis and Green Bay on consecutive Tuesdays after hosting Creighton to start league play.

Starting with a trip to Providence on October 12th, it’s nothing but conference matches the rest of the way out. Senior Day will come on November 2nd when Seton Hall comes to town, while MU will wrap up the regular season with a mid-week afternoon visit to DePaul on November 6th.

Marquette went just 7-9-3 overall last season, but mustered a 5-3-1 mark in Big East play to qualify for the Big East tournament for the first time since 2014. As the #4 seed, they drew with Xavier and top seeded Creighton before advancing on penalty kicks both times. MU will be looking to improve on that record this season and hopefully find their way to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2013.

Here’s the full schedule.
