Your College Basketball Saturday Viewing Guide: January 25, 2020

Hello and welcome to SEC/Big 12 Challenge Day.

NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Baylor
Baylor is ranked #1 and in action today, so they get the picture spot.
Raymond Carlin III-USA TODAY Sports

The college basketball landscape today is heavily overshadowed by the Big 12/SEC challenge series that will take place all over the ESPN Family of networks. There’s 10 games, with all 10 teams in the Big 12 either on the road or hosting SEC squads today. That lineup gives us the best game of the day on national television with #15 Kentucky heading to Lubbock to tangle with #18 Texas Tech.

That game is one of four games on national TV today with a ranked team on the road. There’s also Illinois trying to hold onto their top 25 spot while visiting Michigan in the opening broadcast window, which is quickly followed by #9 Villanova heading to the Dunk to see Providence. The final ranked on the road game of the day comes in the prime time slot on ESPN, with #1 Baylor heading into the O-Dome to face Florida. As everyone is well aware of by now, 1) The #1 ranking spot has already been held by a season record number of teams this year, and it’s definitely at risk of changing again here, and 2) You don’t just walk into the O-Dome and expect to win.

If it feels like it’s a quiet day of basketball in general, it probably is. There’s only 29 games on national television today. It appears as if there are 20 total Division 1 games scheduled for tomorrow, and five of them happen to involve ranked teams. The ranked part is at least partly coincidence, but it’s not a coincidence that the television scheduling wizards are taking advantage of the Sunday in between the NFL conference championship games and the Super Bowl to maximize their broadcasting windows.

Here’s your full rundown for the day on national television, with all times Central as always.
