Luke DeCock Loses Faith In Marquette Basketball

MU’s lone AP supporter last week turned his attention elsewhere this week.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back out they go.

After a brief one week stint with one Associated Press top 25 vote, Marquette men’s basketball is back to earning no votes or points in the newest and latest poll. Last week, it was Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer who gave the Golden Eagles a 24th place vote and thus bestowed two points upon them. This week, DeCock has Rutgers (justifiably) at #24 in the country, and Marquette is left standing around with no national attention after losing in overtime to #13 Butler on Friday night.

Villanova is the top ranked team that’s on Marquette’s schedule this week, moving up one spot to #8. Seton Hall stayed steady at #10, while Maryland moved up two spots to #15. Butler dropped three spots to #16 this week, although that probably has more to do with losing to Villanova than it does getting pushed to overtime by the Golden Eagles.

Creighton is the best unranked team in the land, earning 59 points in the balloting, although that has them a far cry from #25 Rutgers at 102 points. USC has nine points this week, Purdue earned six, and Wisconsin rounds out the list of MU opponents earning votes with a singular 25th place ranking.

Marquette returns to action on Wednesday night when they visit Xavier in Cincinnati. The Musketeers have lost four of their last five games after losing 77-66 at Creighton on Sunday. Tipoff on FS1 is set for 7:30pm.
