With high school basketball in full swing these days, there’s going to be some recruiting information that pops up here and there. In this case, we’re talking about a new scholarship offer from Steve Wojciechowski and Marquette men’s basketball. Late on Wednesday evening, Taison Chatman announced that he had earned an offer from Marquette.

As to what to think or know about young Mr. Chatman at this point, well, it’s all up in the air. He doesn’t have a 247 Sports page at this point, but that’s not really his fault or anything. According to his Max Preps page and his Verbal Commits page, Chatman is a freshman at Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, Minnesota, which is in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities. That puts him in the Class of 2023, and, well, 247 Sports isn’t doing anything about 2023 prospects at this point. I mean, sure, Bronny James has a page, but there’s no rankings for that class at all yet.
Max Preps and Verbal Commits both list Chatman at 6’3” and 160 pounds. This article from 247 Sports indicates that Minnesota also recently offered Chatman a scholarship. However, if comments made by Steve Wojciechowski in public on the radio are any indication, Marquette will be more than happy to outwork the Gophers’ staff if need be to get a recruit, as was the case with Dawson Garcia. It does seem that the offer from Richard Pitino is the only other offer that Chatman has at the moment.
The Star Tribune’s really great basketball hub has at least partial stats for Totino-Grace and Chatman. Through 10 recorded games of his prep career, he’s averaging 13.6 points per game, which appears to lead the team.
That’s about it for important information on Chatman for now. Here’s some videos. This one is from this past September:
Here’s a 12 minute long video billed as a battle between Chatman and Tre Holloman, who has a Class of 2022 offer from Marquette:
Here’s a 10 minute long video with Chatman scoring 11 against Wayzata just the other day, including a loooooooooong game winner with just seconds remaining:
We’re a long, long, long, long way off from having any idea what Marquette’s roster will look like when Chatman would theoretically be putting on the blue and gold for the first time. The 2023-24 season is so far off that Dexter Akanno is the only guy who projects to still be on the roster at that point, and that’s only because he’s redshirting right now and will shift to the freshman class with Garcia, Oso Ighodaro, and Justin Lewis next year. In any case, it’s never a bad plan to recruit tall guards from neighboring states that show early promise.
Here’s what the scholarship situation looks like right now.
