Marquette Women’s Basketball Announces A Schedule Change

I hope you weren’t looking forward to seeing Seton Hall on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Marquette women’s basketball wrapped up a 38 point win over Butler with an eye on moving on to Seton Hall at the McGuire Center on Wednesday.

That’s not happening.

On Monday, Xavier announced a pause in team activities due to COVID reasons. Because Seton Hall played Xavier on Saturday, the Pirates are also going on a pause for contact tracing reasons, and that’s knocking Wednesday’s game in Milwaukee off the table. It’s also knocking off Saturday’s home game against Xavier off the table for the Golden Eagles.

It’s not all bad news.

Marquette is suddenly free on Wednesday, but so is Villanova. They were scheduled to play the Musketeers, and that’s not happening. So, the Big East moved quickly to switch things up, and now the Golden Eagles will be out on the Main Line on Wednesday. That game was supposed to happen as the second to last game of the season, but instead it’ll be now and thus Marquette will get four days off between games at DePaul and at Connecticut to end the regular season.

The only bummer is that the Villanova game was scheduled to be on FS2, and now it’ll be on FloHoops instead with tipoff set for 6pm Central. That’s a loss of a nationally televised game for the Golden Eagles, and that’s not fun.

The Seton Hall and Xavier games are postponed, officially, but they’re probably actually cancelled. Go look at the MU schedule and you tell me when the Golden Eagles are going to fit in two games. There’s just not space, quite honestly, not unless the league cancels the Big East tournament to give them extra time to get games in.
