The 2021 spring season for Marquette women’s volleyball started last weekend with a split series with Illinois State. The Golden Eagles swept the Redbirds on Friday night, but took a five set loss to ISU on Saturday afternoon.

That loss was not enough to knock the Golden Eagles out of the AVCA top 25.

The new poll came out on Tuesday, and Marquette has dropped from #20 in the country to #25. MU snagged 105 points in the polling this time around, putting them between the 138 that went to #24 Western Kentucky and Washington State, the unofficial #26 team, who had 80 points.

As expected, the only Marquette opponent for this season that is also in the top 25 is Creighton. The Bluejays moved up a spot in the top 25 this week, ascending to #14 after going 2-0 in their opening weekend of action.

Illinois State is the only MU foe that’s receiving votes in the poll. Beating the Golden Eagles was good enough to give the Redbirds some combination of five points in the polling. That makes them the unofficial #40 team in the country.

Marquette returns to action on Saturday night when they visit Northern Iowa for a match. First serve is set for 7pm Central, and the match will be streamed on ESPN+. MU will then stay in Cedar Falls to tangle with Drake on Sunday evening.
