On Friday morning, the Big East released the entirety of the 2021-22 conference schedule for women’s basketball. It was only a matter of time before that happened after the men’s schedule was released. Once you lock in one set of games in terms of arena usage and television, you can lock in the other one, and so here we are.
We’re most interested in Marquette related things here, and let me tell you what: Fox Sports has smiled upon Megan Duffy and the Golden Eagles for this coming season. Let me just say it this way:
- at Seton Hall on FS1
- home vs Seton Hall on CBS Sports Network
- home vs Creighton on FS1
- at Villanova on FS1
- at Georgetown on FS2
And here’s the big one.....
- at home vs Connecticut on Fox
Not FS1, not FS2, FOX, the broadcast channel. It’s one of two Big East games that the broadcast side of Fox is picking up this season, and the only one between two Big East foes. UConn hosting Tennessee on February 6th is the other one. Marquette/UConn is a pairing of the teams that went 1-2 in the standings last year AND a rematch of the 2021 Big East tournament title game, and so Fox demanded to put the Huskies on the road in that seasonal home-and-home on the biggest possible stage. Y’all might want to go buy your women’s hoops season tickets now because the McGuire Center is gonna be NUTS on February 13th.
13 of the 14 remaining games on MU’s conference slate will be streamed via FloSports as part of the Big East Digital Network package. The lone exception is, of course, the trip to Storrs to play Connecticut. The Huskies have their own secondary deal with SNY, so that’s where that game will be broadcast. Last year, anyone outside the SNY broadcast area was able to stream UConn games through whatever cable package log in they had on FoxSports.com, and the Big East’s press release on the schedule confirms that will be the situation again this season.
The Marquette non-conference schedule has not been finalized as far as start times go, but it appears that three home games are set: November 15th vs Southern (noon Central start), December 11th vs North Dakota (2pm), and December 22nd vs Cincinnati (1pm). Southern and Cincinnati certainly look like they might be local school outreach days with those matinee start times on a weekday, but we’ll see what happens.
For those of you paying close attention, you’ve already noticed that yes, Marquette will be weaving in and out of Big East play in December. The league opener is set for December 3rd with another game set for the 5th. MU follows that up with a pair of non-conference contests on the 8th and the 11th, and then jumps back to Big East play on the 19th. The 22nd of December brings that Cincinnati contest we mentioned a moment ago, and that will be the non-conference finale even though MU will have already played three league games. Confusing? Maybe, maybe not.
Here’s the full conference schedule for you in convenient table format.
