Waaaaaaaaay back in the preseason Associated Press poll for women’s college basketball, Marquette picked up four points. Then they dropped out of the poll the next week, even though they won their only game of the opening week of the season. Then they lost to Milwaukee, and MU hasn’t come close to the top 25 since.

UNTIL NOW.

In the newest version of the AP poll, YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles have earned [adjusts glasses] one point. This means that one voter had the Golden Eagles at #25 on their ballot.

I’ll take it.

This makes Marquette the unofficial #33 team in the country. They’re two points behind unofficial #32 Georgia Tech and South Dakota, both of whom tallied three points.

It should not surprise you to find out that Connecticut tops the charts in terms of Marquette opponents in the poll this week. The 18-1 Huskies are #1 in the country, earning 28 of the 30 first place votes. Their 748 points was a long way off from #2 North Carolina State’s 685 points.

DePaul is also in the poll this week, falling from #19 to #24. Quite honestly, I would have totally missed that Marquette got one vote if I didn’t remember to check to see where the Blue Demons ended up after losing to Creighton at home on Saturday. They received 85 points to finish between #23 Missouri State at 93 and #25 Rutgers at 50 points.

Marquette returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they visits — wait for it — DePaul! That game will be streamed on FloHoops with a 4pm Central time tipoff.

You can check out the entire top 25 right here.
