After a year away because of the pandemic shutting down last year’s event, YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles are back in the NCAA women’s basketball national championship tournament! It is the fourth consecutive appearance for the Golden Eagles.
They have earned a #10 seed as an at-large team out of the Big East. That gets them a first round game in the Riverwalk region against #7 seed Virginia Tech. That game will be on Sunday, March 21, with tipoff set for 11am Central time and broadcast set for ESPNU. Virginia Tech went 14-9 this season with an 8-8 record in the ACC. The winner of MU’s game will get either #2 Baylor or #15 Jackson State.
The only other Big East team in the field of 64 is Connecticut, the regular season champion and current #1 team in the AP poll. The Huskies are the #1 seed in Marquette’s region, believe it or not. UConn will open their tournament, albeit without head coach Geno Auriemma who recently tested positive for COVID-19, on Sunday at 7pm Central on ESPN against #16 seed High Point.
