New Monday, new AVCA top 25 poll for women’s college volleyball.
Just like last week and the week before that as well, Marquette is the #24 team in the country.
The Golden Eagles snagged 170 points in the poll this week. That puts them in between familiar face Creighton at #23 with 213 points and Pepperdine at #25 with 125 points. Missouri is the unofficial #26 team in the country with just 55 points, so Marquette was definitely in no danger of dropping out in this poll. As has been the case all year, the Bluejays are the only ranked team on Marquette’s schedule, and they’re the only team receiving votes as well.
This past week saw Marquette knock off Saint Louis in four sets and down Iowa State in a sweep. Neither win is particularly monumental in terms of news related to rankings, but it’s enough to hold steady. MU doesn’t currently have any games against ranked teams scheduled with the Creighton Big East matches postponed and looking like they won’t be made up as the days go by, so the only thing that would cause a rise in the polls is if teams at 20, 21, 22 or so would lose in an incredibly surprising fashion.
Marquette returns to action to keep building on their 8-2 record this coming Friday. They kick off four straight scheduled road Big East contests when they face Butler at 5pm Central on Friday followed by a 3pm start against the Bulldogs on Saturday. Butler is 3-5 on the year after losing two on the road to DePaul this past weekend.
