Marquette Men’s Soccer Ranked #19 In Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll

As you might expect after reaching the Sweet 16 in last year’s NCAA tournament.

Well, it looks like Marquette men’s soccer can be declared a nationally ranked powerhouse now.

On August 4th, United Soccer Coaches released their preseason rankings for college soccer, and yes, YOUR Golden Eagles are in the top 25! Marquette came in at #19 heading into the fall 2021 season after earning 177 points in the balloting. That lands them directly in between #18 Charlotte at 183 points and #20 New Hampshire at 164.

If you’re like me, you just said to yourself, “oh wow, two non-power conference programs in the top 20, that’s wild.” Well, it’s wilder than you think. Check this out:

#1 Marshall
#12 Missouri State
#17 Loyola Marymount
#18 Charlotte
#20 New Hampshire
#21 James Madison
#22 Grand Canyon
#23 Fordham
#24 High Point
#25 Coastal Carolina

Dang. Marquette is the only thing breaking up non-power conference programs from having every spot from 17 through 25.

As far as Marquette’s schedule for this season goes, they won’t face a ranked team in non-conference play. There are two Big East teams in the preseason top 25, though. By luck of the draw, the Golden Eagles will split those two games between home and road. They will visit #10 Seton Hall on September 24th in the second game of the conference schedule, and then #5 Georgetown will come to Valley Fields on October 30th for the regular season finale.

Marquette will get exhibition play started on Friday, August 13 when they host Cardinal Stritch. The regular season gets going on Thursday, August 26th, when Green Bay comes to Valley Fields for the opener.
