Woodward named DPOW; Fries on Honor Roll

Marquette defender Mason Woodward was named the Big East's Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against Michigan on Saturday. Here's the league's writeup:

"Woodward posted a game-high seven ground balls, caused two turnovers and added an assist in Marquette’s 14-9 victory over Michigan on Saturday in the Southwest Florida Shootout. He entered the weekend second in the country among non-faceoff specialists in ground balls per game and reached his season averages in ground balls (7.0), caused turnovers (2.0) and points (1.0). The assist was his fourth point in as many games this season."

In addition, midfielder Griffin Fries was named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll. Here's that writeup:

"Fries set new career highs in goals (4) and points (5) in Marquette’s 14-9 victory over Michigan on Saturday. He scored twice in the game’s first nine minutes to help MU out to an early 4-0 lead."
