The Big East's office write up on Karlen's week is incredibly straight forward:

16-point, 12-rebound double-double in win at DePaul on Tuesday

Volleyball announces spring schedule

+

The Golden Eagles will be out of town for all four dates on their schedule, including three matches on two different days at the high school homes of three players on the 2024 roster.

Braden & Murray Break Indoor Track & Field Records

+

Back on February 9, Daylee Braden broke Marquette's record in the women's 600 meter run at the Grand Valley State Big Meet. She had already broken the record once this season, and she ran a 1:30.66 to re-break it by another two seconds from her time in December.

In addition to that, Zachariah Murray broke the men's 600 meter run record, posting a 1:18.86 to break Kyle Winter's record of 1:19.07 set in 2013.

In addition to those team records, eight other Golden Eagles set personal bests in their events.

Tyler Kolek named Big East Player of the Week

+

It's the second POTW award for Kolek this season. Here's the league's writeup on him:

Kolek delivered an impressive performance in Marquette’s 86-75 win over St. John’s. He became only the third player in Division I in the last 20 years to post at least 27 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds in a game. Kolek scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half to rally the Golden Eagles from a nine-point deficit at halftime. He made 11-of-17 shots from the field.

Brandt named Offensive Player & Freshman of the Week

+

Freshman attacker Carsen Brandt was rewarded for his big outing against Lindenwood. Here's what the Big East office had to say about him:

After contributing a pair of goals in his collegiate debut, Carsen Brandt led the Marquette offense once again to earn his second consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolade, as well as the first Player of the Week honor of his career. The freshman attacker registered a hat-trick and dished out a trio of assists to tie for the BIG EAST lead with six points on the week. Brandt led the Golden Eagles to a 16-5 win over Lindenwood on Friday to improve to 2-0 on the year.

In addition to Brandt's awards, Mason Woodward and Luke Williams were named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Here's Woodward's writeup:

Anchoring the Golden Eagles’ defense, Woodward caused a turnover and collected four ground balls, while also limiting Lindenwood to just five goals. Woodward also set the Marquette career ground ball record.

And here's what they had on Williams:

Williams won 7-of-10 faceoffs and picked up six ground balls in Marquette’s victory on Saturday.

Bireley Named OPOTW; Huber on Weekly Honor Roll

+

Marquette women's lacrosse earned two nods from the Big East office in the season's first weekly awards. First, Meg Bireley was named Offensive Player of the Week. Here's what the league said about her:

Bireley started off the season with a bang, posting a career-high seven goals in Marquette’s 18-12 opening win over Cincinnati on Sunday. The junior was a consistent presence on the offensive end throughout the matchup, totaling career highs in shots (12) and shots on goal (10). She also helped out with a caused turnover and ground ball, leading the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 start.

Defender Kaitlyn Huber made the Weekly Honor Roll as well. Here's her writeup:

posted career highs in caused turnovers (3), grounds balls (2), and draw controls (1) in Marquette’s 18-12 win over Cincinnati on Sunday

National Marquette Day Stripe-Out

Follow the link, make sure you wear the right color for the game. I don't know about anybody else, but my section is the same -- championship blue -- as last year.

Liza Karlen on Weekly Honor Roll

+

Here's how the Big East office wrote up Karlen's week:

21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 50-percent shooting in a 1-1 week; game highs of 29 points, 10 boards in narrow setback at No. 22 Creighton on Wednesday

Tyler Kolek on Weekly Honor Roll

+

He averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 assists, and 2.0 steals as Marquette won at Villanova and at Georgetown.

This was not good enough for Player of the Week, which went to Xavier's Quincy Olivari, who had 43 points, the most in a Big East game since 2019, but he did that against DePaul. I feel like that shouldn't count.
