As we've discussed before, it's important for both of Marquette's lacrosse teams to show signs of improvement this season, even if it doesn't translate into wins. A easily recognizable way of seeing this improvement is to earn weekly awards from the Big East, as this is the first official year in the conference for both teams. This week, both teams had an honoree.
In men's lacrosse, Bryan Badolato was named the Offensive Player of the Week. The senior attacker had five goals in Marquette's lone game last week against Marist. It was a career high in goals for Badolato, and he barely missed scoring half of MU's tallies in their 16-12 loss to the Red Foxes. Both his first and last goals were significant, as the first one broke a six goal run by Marist, while the fifth narrowed the game to just 12-10 in the fourth quarter. It's the first conference honor for Badolato, and he's the first Marquette player to be named Offensive Player of the Week.
Over in women's lacrosse, Hayley Baas was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. The sophomore midfielder recorded her fourth and fifth career hat tricks as Marquette went 2-1 last week. Baas was a tornado of activity against Detroit on Sunday, where she had three ground balls, three draw controls and a career-high four caused turnovers in addition to a hat trick to help power Marquette to their second straight win.
Congratulations to Bryan and Hayley!
