Marquette Stays Steady In The New AVCA Top 25 Poll

The Golden Eagles are still hanging around just barely outside the top 25.

A 3-0 weekend and a Marquette Invitational title for Marquette volleyball was enough to keep them in the eyes and minds of the AVCA voters this week.

After racking up 41 points to sit one spot outside the AVCA top 25 last week, Marquette is….. right there again this week. The Golden Eagles snagged exactly 41 points in this week’s poll to yet once again sit at exactly one spot outside the top 25. San Diego is your #25 team in the country with 114 points, while North Carolina is right behind Marquette with 39 points.

Wisconsin holds on to their #2 spot in the rankings as they have now run their record on the year to a perfect 10-0. They have 11 first place votes as they start to lock themselves in a stare down with #1 Texas over which team will lose first. Kentucky is no longer the #8 team in the country, not officially. A tie with Purdue at 1,153 points has both teams officially at #7 in the country, but we all know that technically, one of them is actually #8. Creighton also moved up one spot in the poll this week to #16, but they don’t have to share that ranking with anyone else.

That does it for teams even earning votes on Marquette’s schedule this season, although there are six teams that appeared on just one ballot and the AVCA doesn’t like to officially recognize those outliers. Seems mean, but whatcha gonna do about it?

Marquette returns to the court this coming Friday when they kick off Big East action with a visit to Villanova in the evening, followed by a Saturday afternoon contest with Georgetown. First serve on Friday is set for 6pm Central, while the match against the Hoyas is set to start at 3pm Central.
