Jenna Reitsma Named Defensive Player of the Week

Here's how the Big East office wrote it up: In a perfect 2-0 week, Reitsma led the BIG EAST in service aces (0.83), ranked fourth in points (4.50), seventh in digs (4.17), and tenth in kills (3.50). She produced double-doubles in both the Golden Eagles’ straight set victories while leading Marquette in multiple categories. Against St. John’s, the sophomore produced match-highs in both digs (13) and aces (2). Against Seton Hall, she exploded for a match-best 11 kills and three aces contributing to a Marquette team which led the BIG EAST in kills this week (15.50). In addition to that, Carsen Murray earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll. Here's what the MU press release on that said: Murray hit .571 with 1.00 block per set in wins over the Red Storm and Seton Hall. The BIG EAST leader in hitting percentage and blocks posted 11 kills on .625 hitting along with five blocks against SJU and added six kills with no hitting errors against the Pirates.

Hattie Bray earns a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll

Yes, I'm a week behind, hush. Here's what the Marquette press release on it said: "Bray hit .545 with 3.33 kills and 0.83 blocks per set in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles. She posted nine kills on .438 hitting and two blocks in Friday's win over UConn. Against Providence on Saturday, Bray set a new career best with 11 kills on .647 hitting (11-0-17) with three blocks and a pair of digs. The weekly honor is the first of her Marquette career."

Yadhira Anchante Named Big East Offensive Player of the Week

Let's go to the Marquette press release on the details, since that's almost always more elaborate: For the week, she averaged 11.57 assists and 3.14 digs per set, while helping MU hit a combined .360. Anchante also averaged 1.86 kills herself and hit .542. She began the week with 35 assists, nine digs and a service ace in a sweep of DePaul on Wednesday and recorded her first career triple-double in NCAA play with 10 kills, 46 assists and 13 digs against Butler on Saturday night. The native of Lima, Peru ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists (10.27 per set) and is sixth in service aces with 17 on the year (0.38/set). As a team, the Golden Eagles are hitting a league-high .286 with Anchante at the helm, and lead the BIG EAST in kills with 14.11 per frame.

Aubrey Hamilton on Big East Weekly Honor Roll

Let's turn to the Marquette press release on the topic, since that's always more informative: Hamilton led the Golden Eagles to wins over Green Bay, then-No. 25 Illinois and Illinois State while leading the squad in points. For the week, she hit .316 with 3.09 kills and 2.73 digs per set. She finished one kill behind Jenna Reitsma for the team kills lead with 34, while recording five service aces and six blocks. Her 30 total digs were second to libero Carly Skrabak for the team lead. The native of Hartland, Wisconsin hit .560 (15-1-25) with a match-high 15 kills in the sweep of Illinois State on Sunday along with nine digs, a pair of service aces and three blocks. She opened the week by hitting .381 (11-3-21) against Green Bay and set a new career high with 16 digs in Saturday's win over Illinois.

You can go read the league office's quick blurb on Murray's honor, but the Marquette one is more detailed: The All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection averaged 1.45 blocks per set, while hitting .350 in wins over Loyola Chicago, LSU and Green Bay. Murray posted seven kills on .385 hitting in Saturday's win over LSU and notched all six of her blocks in the pivotal fourth set. She also added six blocks against Loyola on Tuesday and had four in the sweep of Milwaukee on Sunday.
